Gayton Baptist Church is a church committed to seeing every life changed by Jesus! We’re located in Short Pump in the west end of Henrico county, one of the fastest growing locations of the Greater Richmond Area. As a church family, we seek to disciple new believers, enrich our church body through the Bible, and obey Jesus’ teaching and commands by being on mission in our community, region, and world. Missions and worship is central to every ministry of Gayton, and we are following the Spirit to discover new ways to reach those within our community who don’t yet know the promises Jesus has for them.

  • Work collaboratively across all areas of our church to enhance our strategic capacity, increase our effectiveness, empower leaders and mobilize volunteers to serve
  • Provide direct pastoral oversight for specific ministry areas of our church 
  • Work with and oversee church staff to care for and oversee church community as a whole
  • Leads, manages, and fosters an environment of accountability for achieving agreed-upon commitments
  • Delivers excellence in achieving ministry goals, strategic planning, setting staff culture, developing and coaching staff, and developing and implementing process to ensure operational efficiency 
  • Resolves issues effectively – seeing real problems, being comfortable with conflict, calling out the problems, and solving the problems in a practical and healthy manner 
  • Ensures that the church’s core processes and operating system are functioning with consistency 
  • Effectively collaborates with the Senior Pastor – realizing the unique contributions and ideas that the Senior Pastor has, and possesses and ability to filter and translate those ideas into functional plans for the church
  • Confirms that key messages are properly cascaded across the organization to ensure a high level of communication exists throughout the organization

Role Description for Administrative Leader 


Role Summary

  • Work collaboratively across all areas of our church to enhance our strategic capacity, increase our effectiveness, empower leaders and mobilize volunteers to serve
  • Provide direct pastoral oversight for specific ministry areas of our church 
  • Work with and oversee church staff to care for and oversee church community as a whole


Organizational Framework

  • Reports directly to the Senior Pastor 
  • Oversee and manage the church staff 
  • Full-time salaried role 
  • Works in conjunctions with Servant Leadership Council, Mission Council, Discipleship Council, Stewardship Task Group, Human Resources Task Group, Facility Task Group, Youth Council, Kids Council, AGAPE/SPACE/Quest Board, and all Church Staff
  • Requires flexibility of working hours which vary with seasons and involve evenings and weekends (Sunday especially is always a normal work day)

 

Responsibilities

Work collaboratively across all areas of our church to enhance our strategic capacity, increase our effectiveness, empower leaders and mobilize volunteers to serve


 

  1. Identify and assess strategic needs 
  • Work with Senior pastor and lead staff team to identify needs within all areas of the church
  • Determine what is missing, what is not effective and what needs to be done 
  • Work with staff lead team members to define and develop ministry systems that address those needs


2.Implementation 

  • Turning our vision and our best thoughts about the vision into reality. 
  • Work with ministry areas to implement the above strategic systems 
  • Work in current areas with current leaders to assist and coach implementation
  • Recruit and develop new leaders to implement 


3.Mobilize volunteers (working together with ministry leaders across all area of the church)

  • Mobilize people to engage in these systems and assist/coach leaders to nurture both the systems and especially the people
  • Be a relational presence and meet with people who want to serve 
  • Identify skills, experience and gifting within our community 
  • Work with ministry areas to connect volunteers to needs 
  • Work with ministry areas to increase relational connection, nurture and follow up

 

Work with staff lead team to care for and oversee church community as a whole

 

  • Serve on lead staff team 
  • Prepares agenda for weekly sta? meetings 
  • Meet with all staff, understand workload, and assess and make recommendations for existing and new organization structure
  • Set annual goals for ministry areas 
  • Recommend training and development for staff positions 
  • Review financial function and staffing – make recommendation for future staff model considering possibility of outsourcing
  • Be the staff liaison for all new staff hires – organize candidate interviews, assist with writing job descriptions, salary packaging, job postings, job sourcing, review of resumes, recommendations, and on-boarding
  • Assist with supervision of facility manager in day-to-day maintenance of building and grounds
  • Provide general pastoral care and oversight for church community as required 
  • Work with Senior adults 
  • Speak on Sundays as required 
  • Champion the church vision in all aspects of church life

  • An understanding of leadership as servanthood 
  • Highly relational: ability to connect with and relate to people 
  • Energetic and positive: Willingness to love and care for the people of our community and track record of dealing with stress and conflict well
  • Creativity and resourcefulness: naturally and easily thinks “outside of the box” when seeking solutions or strategizing
  • Flexibility and a team player; openness to learn 

 

Required Skills

  • Proven track record of thinking strategically, creating and managing systems to mobilize others towards specific goals
  • Proven track record of developing and leading teams and individuals 
  • Computer and basic software competency essential 
  • Excellent interpersonal and social skills 
  • Good organizational skills 
  • Attention to detail and follow through 
  • Ability in public speaking 
  • Either seeking or holds a Divinity Degree 
  • Experience in a pastoral role preferable
