Deacon Nominations

The Discernment Task Group (DTG) is requesting nominations for the position of Deacon. We need to fill three (3) positions. A deacon is a member (non-clergy) elected by the church to serve the church body and assist the pastor and ministerial staff. Qualifications of a deacon as outlined in the Gayton Baptist Church constitution are as follows:

  • Be a member of the church
  • Support the church’s Purpose, Vision, and Values as adopted by the congregation
  • Have, in accordance with the meaning of the work and practice in the New Testament, the qualifications specified therein and be servants of the church
  • Be a regular participant in public worship at the church
  • Be at least 21 years of age

New Testament qualifications for deacons can be found in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.

1 Timothy 3:8-13 The Message (MSG)

8-13 The same goes for those who want to be servants in the church: serious, not deceitful, not too free with the bottle, not in it for what they can get out of it. They must be reverent before the mystery of the faith, not using their position to try to run things. Let them prove themselves first. If they show they can do it, take them on. No exceptions are to be made for women—same qualifications: serious, dependable, not sharp-tongued, not overfond of wine. Servants in the church are to be committed to their spouses, attentive to their own children, and diligent in looking after their own affairs. Those who do this servant work will come to be highly respected, a real credit to this Jesus-faith.

You must be a member of Gayton Baptist Church to submit nominations, and your nominations must be signed. Ballots may be found at the Welcome Desk upstairs beginning Sunday, November 12, 2023. Ballots will remain available through Sunday, November 26, 2023. You may also nominate online thru Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the church website. Please prayerfully consider your nominations.
